From their first encounter, Pei Yuanshao was intrigued by Liu Changning’s mysterious aura. Though he initially viewed her as just another woman to manipulate.

When Liu Changning proposed divorce shortly after their arranged marriage, Pei Yuanshao felt an unexpected pang in his heart. He lashed out angrily, refusing to let her go even though their union was just a facade. Deep down, he was afraid of losing her presence in his life.

As they were forced to cohabitate, Pei Yuanshao’s emotions grew increasingly complex. He was irritated by Liu Changning’s indifference towards him, yet found himself constantly seeking her attention through playful teasing and banter. When she showed concern for his well-being, a warm feeling blossomed in his chest that he couldn’t quite understand.

The turning point came when Liu Changning was framed as a demon spy at the Qionglin Banquet. Seeing her in danger, Pei Yuanshao felt a surge of protectiveness he had never experienced before. When Liu Changning had to leave for a dangerous mission, Pei Yuanshao was torn apart inside. He wanted desperately to keep her by his side, yet knew he had to let her go. As she departed, he felt as if a piece of his soul was being ripped away. For the first time, he understood the pain of separation from a loved one.

During Liu Changning’s absence, Pei Yuanshao found himself constantly thinking of her. He would absently touch the red knot she had given him, a bittersweet ache in his heart. At night, he would gaze at the moon and wonder if she was looking at the same sky. The palace that was once his sanctuary now felt empty and lifeless without her presence.

Without caring for his own safety, he rushed to her aid, determined to protect her at all costs. The thought of losing her forever was more terrifying than facing any enemy.

In the final battle, seeing Liu Changning injured and exhausted, Pei Yuanshao’s heart ached fiercely. He shielded her with his own body, willing to sacrifice himself if it meant she could live. As arrows rained down upon them, his only regret was not being able to confess his true feelings.

Transported to the chaotic realm together, Pei Yuanshao’s protective instincts went into overdrive. Despite his own fatigue and injuries, he carried Liu Changning on his back across the scorching desert, determined to find safety. With each step on the burning sand, his resolve to keep her alive grew stronger.

When Liu Changning coughed up blood, showing signs of spiritual exhaustion, Pei Yuanshao felt true fear grip his heart. The thought of her dying in his arms was unbearable. In desperation, he considered using the secret dual cultivation technique to save her, even though it went against all his principles.

As he contemplated merging his spiritual energy with Liu Changning to repair her dantian, Pei Yuanshao’s emotions were in turmoil. Part of him was terrified of such intimacy, yet another part yearned for that connection. His trembling hands as he reached to undress her revealed both his nervousness and desire.
